These authors cross-promote by creating a following with an oft-used theme in their books via online radio. Michelle M. Pillow and Mandy M. Roth host the Raven Happy Hour on Blog Talk Radio.

How long has the show been on on-air?
It’s been live since Oct 2007. Before that, it was a pre-recorded podcast.

How do you find people to listen to the show and build a fan base?
We announced to all our fans, our author groups, myspace and other social networking groups. The people we interview tell their friends and family, as well as their readers. Word of mouth has really been the best advertiser for it. Raven Radio is just one part of a bigger site Mandy and I own. We advertise the site and all its projects.

How do you measure audience size?
Blog Talk Radio and Pod-o-matic both have stats so we can track subscribers and live listeners. We take feedback from our guests and listeners.

Do you sell more of your books because of the show?
It’s really hard to say what marketing tools are most effective when it comes to sales. I definately think it helps in getting our names out there and name recognition is a big part of promoting yourself. It allows us to network with other authors and get to know them a little better. Plus, I think readers like being able to put a voice and personality with the written persona.

What is your favorite comment that interviewees say about being on your show?
We’re a pretty relaxed couple of authors, so I love it when we get the emails saying how at ease the interviewee was and how much fun they had. Really, that’s what this show is all about — just goofing off and having fun.
